AgriShield-X™: Patent Pending – PATP1280.02 / Application Number 19/370919

© Biotech International Institute — Bill Carrington & Dominic Carrington

Overview

AgriShield-X™ is an early-stage, investigational concept being developed by Biotech International Institute for potential use in livestock management. The formulation is currently under study as a possible tool for managing fly pressure, including screwworm flies, in ranching and dairy environments.

At this moment, AgriShield-X™ remains in research and prototyping. It is currently not an approved product, and no conclusions regarding its safety, efficacy, or regulatory status have been documented.

Formulation Under Evaluation

The AgriShield-X™ concept focuses on combining several components into a single formulation that can be studied as an integrated system. The current working formulation includes:

  • Carvacrol – a plant-derived component that is being evaluated in this experimental context.

  • Limonene oxide – a citrus-derived component under evaluation as part of the formulation.

  • Chitosan nanogels – a biodegradable carrier material being studied for its potential to support controlled release of the other components.

These ingredients will be studied together, rather than as stand-alone products. Their combined implementation, stability, operating characteristics, and potential suitability for livestock-related use remain the subject of ongoing and planned studies. Any observations made so far are preliminary and may not be representative of future findings.

Investigational Use Scenarios

The research and development will support advancing AgriShield-X™. Several potential application procedures are under consideration, including:

  • Use through chute or alley spray systems.

  • Full-body misting concepts.

  • Targeted topical application around areas considered at higher risk of fly activity.

These concepts are conceptual only. Actual use instructions, such as dosage, intervals, coverage patterns, and any species- or age-specific guidance, have not yet been finalized. They would depend on future study outcomes and any applicable regulatory input. No recommendations for on-farm use can be made at this time.

Current Development Stage

AgriShield-X™ is currently positioned at early research stages. Bench-scale and field-oriented evaluations will be planned to explore topics such as:

  • Formulation stability and release characteristics,

  • Practical handling and application feasibility in livestock settings, and

  • Observational data related to fly activity near animals exposed to test requirements.

These activities are exploratory in nature. Any early observations are considered tentative, and they may not predict later results when tested under different conditions, in larger populations, or under regulatory study designs.

AgriShield-X™ has not been reviewed, cleared, or approved by any regulatory authority for commercial sale or use.

Environmental and Handling Considerations (In Development)

As part of the broader development process, the team will be examining several environmental and practical topics, including:

  • Raw material sourcing and potential supply-chain considerations.

  • Biodegradability and ecological fate of formulation components.

  • Worker and animal handling practices in typical ranching and dairy operations.

  • Disposal, cleanup, and equipment maintenance protocols.

Final direction on these topics does not yet exist and depends on the outcomes of ongoing evaluations and any applicable regulatory frameworks. No specific handling or disposal instructions are being provided for field use, as AgriShield-X™ is not available as a commercial product.
